My real estate career began as a naive Dalby boy in Cairns in 1989 working for PRD Realty and a larger-than-life Principal. I learnt much in my four years in Cairns, but one truth continues to resonate with me today, that real estate is a cyclical force with its ups and downs. To experience 18% interest rates and an airline strike was the ultimate of a depressed market where I discovered things don’t always keep going up, somewhere a correction or balance must be found.

From 1992 – 1996 we moved back to my old stomping ground, Toowoomba, again selling real estate where I cut my teeth in another hard real estate environment.

Before re-entering the industry here on the Coral Coast, my wife and I managed a private island/cattle property “Marble Island” off the Queensland coast between Rockhampton and Mackay for five years. During this experience I was able to develop my own management skills, resourcefulness and ability to adapt to a changing environment. A truly unique time of our lives. Yet the call of beautiful Bargara and the Bundaberg region drew us back to the mainland in 2003, a place which became home for us and our two children.

We established a successful maintenance/landscaping business, until somebody tried to re-claim his rugby abilities and snapped his achilles. One’s youthful thoughts are sometimes best left in the past. This lead me back into real estate, May of 2007, selling in the Bundy region where my knowledge base over the past 18 years has grown exponentially.

I have always had a strong passion for real estate from the stages of development through to marketing. The other great thing about our industry is the diverse range of people you meet. Listening to and embracing people’s life stories never ceases to amaze me, whether it be humbling or motivational, each remains intriguing and as unique as the last.

Having witnessed the cyclic patterns of real estate being pushed and pulled by regional Australian economic pressures over a 25-year career is an invaluable experience which has allowed me to share my knowledge and expertise with my clients.

We have just experienced one of the most heated real estate markets in 20 years, as an experienced agent my thoughts now turn to how we navigate forward with the inevitable changing market conditions ahead …
